Fukuyama Daidougei Festival

On May 17 and 18, I participated in Fukuyama Daidogei, the largest street performance festival in western Japan. It’s a major event that brings together amazing performers from all over the country.

I took a 9-hour overnight bus from Tokyo to Okayama, then rode a train for another hour to get to Fukuyama—a full-day journey. It was my first time visiting Fukuyama, and the city was also celebrating its Rose Festival, which made the whole atmosphere really charming.

My first show of the festival got caught in the rain, but after that, the weather cleared up and it was perfect for street performing. I had two shows each day, and with over 50 performers participating, I spent all my free time talking and connecting with as many of them as I could.

What really struck me was how grateful I felt that, even among so many talented performers, there were people who specifically chose to watch GAKU. That meant a lot to me.

It was a festival full of great memories, and I truly hope to take part again.
